International Human Resource Management Virtual Paper Development Workshop 21 May 2021 (09:00-13:00 EST) Via Zoom
Call for Extended Abstracts Deadline: 28 February 2021 Organized by the Center for International Human Resource Studies (CIHRS) at The Pennsylvania State University (USA) Elaine Farndale (euf3@psu.edu) Professor of HRM, CIHRS Director Miguel Olivas-Luján (miguel.olivas@psu.edu) Professor (Teaching) of HRM, CIHRS Associate Director Maja Vidović (maja.vidovic@psu.edu) Assistant Teaching Professor of HRM ==CIHRS IHRM Virtual PDW 2021== ===How the Virtual Workshop will work=== The workshop will include paper development roundtables (using Zoom breakout rooms) that are intended to be developmental conversations among a small group of scholars led by an expert mentor. Roundtables will include discussions of approximately three accepted papers. These discussions may be of interest to other potential audience attendees by engaging in the conversation and experiencing the feedback and developmental suggestions. Extended abstracts are invited for consideration for inclusion in the parallel roundtables. Authors of selected abstracts must submit the full paper at least one month before the workshop date; otherwise their paper will be excluded. Each accepted paper will be assigned to one of the paper development roundtables. The papers will be discussed by a small group that includes the paper authors, an assigned mentor, and audience members. The goal of each roundtable is to provide developmental feedback to help authors move their paper toward publication. The expectation is that authors and mentors will have read the relevant papers in advance and come prepared to offer comments. In the breakout rooms, group members will first briefly introduce themselves. The first author should then present their paper(5minutes) using only one PowerPoint slide that identifies the target journal for the paper and the key areas on which feedback is being sought. The mentor for the paper will follow with brief comments and then will facilitate the conversation among all participants who have prepared comments (15minutes). Roundtable participants should take turns in taking the role of note-taker to help capture the feedback for the authors of the paper that is being discussed. ===Who should attend=== This PDW is designed primarily for junior academic faculty or doctoral students looking to improve their publishing skills in the international HRM field. Ideally, scholars will be researching aspects of human resource management with an international dimension, such as exploring issues of global talent management, differences in people management across countries (comparative HRM), or emerging economies and HRM. However, papers on more general HRM topics of interest to an international audience will also be considered (e.g.,diversity management, occupational health and safety, labor relations, change management, neo-institutional or critical perspectives of people management policy and practices). ===How to apply=== Extended abstracts (not full papers) should be submitted for review. Extended abstracts (in English) should be 750-1,000 words and formatted as per Academy of Management Journal submission style. They should include: • the aims and intended contributions of the study; • an outline description of the theoretical framework and concepts; • the research design and approach to data analysis (where applicable); • the key findings, along with their theoretical and practical significance. All submissions must be original and should not have been previously accepted for publicationin a journal. All submissions will be blind reviewed. Please submit in Word (.doc or .docx) or PDF format (excluding any author identifying information) to the following email address:cihrs@psu.edu. There will be a small fee of USD 50 for attendance, which will cover operational expenses for the workshop including recognition of the mentors and speakers. Payment details will be provided when registration opens in April 2021. Important dates: Deadline for extended abstract submissions: 28 February 2021 Decision on paper acceptance: 26 March 2021 Deadline for full paper submissions for accepted papers: 23 April 2021 Workshop fee payment deadline: 23 April 2021 The Center for International Human Resource Studies is an initiative of the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the Pennsylvania State University (USA), which encourages IHRM scholarly research and serves the International HR practitioner community.
